Open-plan bespoke kitchen in Pencoed refinished in Peignoir and Great White with vaulted ceiling and timber beams

Kitchen Refinishing in Pencoed –
Peignoir & Great White

This bespoke hand-painted kitchen in Pencoed was refinished following a colour consultation with interior designer Louise Misell. The existing shaker cabinetry was well crafted and structurally sound, but the finish required renewal to achieve greater clarity, consistency and durability.

Rather than replacing high-quality joinery, the brief was to refine and elevate it — preserving craftsmanship while delivering a professional, workshop-applied finish.

Designer-Led Colour Selection: Peignoir & Great White

Following consultation, Louise Misell specified Farrow & Ball Peignoir for the island and Great White for the surrounding cabinetry.

Peignoir provides a soft, architectural contrast that anchors the island, while Great White keeps the perimeter light and balanced against the vaulted ceiling and exposed timber beams. The dual-tone approach introduces depth without overpowering the space, allowing the joinery proportions and architectural detailing to remain the focus.

Refinishing a Bespoke Hand-Painted Kitchen

The original kitchen was custom built and traditionally hand-painted. While visually appealing, brush-applied finishes can soften and wear over time, particularly on high-use areas such as islands and drawer fronts.

Our role was not to redesign the kitchen, but to professionally refinish the existing cabinetry — improving durability and consistency while respecting the integrity of the original bespoke joinery.

Our Workshop Refinishing Process

For this Pencoed project, all doors and drawer fronts were carefully removed, labelled and documented before being transported to our dedicated spray workshop.

Each component was professionally prepared, primed and refinished using a durable, furniture-grade coating system applied under controlled conditions. Once fully cured, the cabinetry was reinstalled with close attention to alignment and detail.

By completing the majority of the work in our spray environment rather than entirely on-site, we achieved a smoother, more consistent and longer-lasting finish than traditional hand painting can provide.

The Finished Result

The refinished cabinetry now feels cleaner, more structured and architecturally balanced. The Peignoir island grounds the room, while Great White softens the surrounding units, creating a calm but intentional contrast within the open-plan space.

This Pencoed kitchen retains its bespoke craftsmanship while benefiting from a professional, workshop-applied finish built to withstand everyday use.
