From Dark to Light — A Merthyr Tydfil Kitchen Refinished
This Merthyr Tydfil kitchen shows how a carefully considered colour change can completely transform the atmosphere of a well-made space. Once dominated by dark, imposing black cabinetry, the room now feels lighter, warmer and more architectural following a full professional refinishing in Farrow & Ball Stirabout.
Refinished in our dedicated spray workshop, the existing cabinetry was preserved and elevated rather than replaced — keeping the quality that was already there, while introducing a softer, more balanced palette that allows light to move naturally through the room.

This project involved transforming a kitchen that originally featured dark, imposing black cabinetry into a lighter, more welcoming space using Farrow & Ball Stirabout — a soft, warm neutral that completely rebalanced the room.
Our client had been quoted over £20,000 to replace the existing kitchen - we refinished the kitchen and island for less than a quarter of that price.
Our scope included the full refinishing of all cabinet doors, drawer fronts and fixed panels. Each component was carefully removed, thoroughly degreased and prepared in our workshop to ensure a smooth, long-lasting finish. Any minor surface imperfections were filled and refined before priming and spraying.
Back on site, we completed the refinishing of fixed cabinetry elements to ensure a seamless, cohesive result throughout the kitchen. The new tone works beautifully with the existing worktops and flooring, allowing natural light to travel more freely through the space while still maintaining a calm, architectural feel.
The result is a kitchen that feels lighter, more spacious and far more in keeping with the home — proof that a well-built kitchen doesn’t need replacing to feel completely transformed.
