Removing Failing Vinyl and Refinishing a Lisvane Kitchen
The cabinetry in this Lisvane kitchen was structurally sound, but its original white vinyl covering had begun to fail. The underlying construction remained worth keeping, making careful restoration and refinishing a better response than unnecessary replacement.
We removed the deteriorating vinyl, prepared the exposed surfaces and professionally refinished the cabinetry in a deep Tuxedo Blue. The result is a confident new finish that preserves the existing kitchen while resolving the failure of its original surface.
Project overview
Location: Lisvane, Cardiff
Colour: Tuxedo Blue (deep navy)
Finish: Workshop spray refinishing, 10% acid catalyst coating
Scope: Refinish existing kitchen cabinetry
Why This Kitchen Was Ideal for Refinishing
The existing cabinetry in this Lisvane home was well-built and structurally sound, making it a strong candidate for professional refinishing rather than replacement. While the original white vinyl had failed, the core construction beneath was worth preserving.
By removing the vinyl and refinishing the surfaces in our workshop spray studio, we were able to retain the quality of the original kitchen while completely redefining its appearance. This approach reduces waste, avoids the disruption of a full rip-out, and delivers a refined result tailored to the home.
Workshop Spray Finishing vs On-Site Painting
All doors, drawer fronts and removable components were refinished in our dedicated spray workshop rather than painted in the home.
This allows for:
-
Controlled temperature and drying conditions
-
Even, consistent colour application
-
Durable, furniture-grade coatings
-
A cleaner, more precise finish than brush or roller methods
It’s a slower, more considered process — but one that produces results designed to stand up to daily kitchen use.
A Smarter Alternative to Kitchen Replacement
For many homeowners in Lisvane and across Cardiff, a full kitchen replacement isn’t necessary. When the layout works and the cabinetry is sound, spray refinishing offers a way to modernise the space without the cost, upheaval and environmental impact of starting again.
This project shows how a confident colour choice and professional preparation can completely shift the feel of a kitchen — turning a dated white scheme into something deeper, warmer and more design-led.
We take on a limited number of kitchen refinishing projects each month to ensure a careful, workshop-led process and a consistently high standard of finish.
If your kitchen feels tired but the structure is still good, professional spray refinishing may be the right approach.
