You don’t always need a new kitchen

For many homes, the kitchen isn’t the problem.
The layout works. The cabinetry is well made. The space functions as it should.
What’s changed is the finish.
Over time, colours date, surfaces wear, and what once felt right no longer suits the rest of the home. The default response is often to consider a full replacement — but in many cases, that simply isn’t necessary.
Learn more about our process on our kitchen refinishing page.
A more considered approach
Refinishing allows you to keep what already works, while improving how the space feels.
Rather than removing and replacing the entire kitchen, we focus on the elements that define it visually:
Cabinet colour
Surface finish and sheen
Hardware and detailing
By adjusting these carefully, the kitchen can feel entirely different — lighter, more balanced, and more in keeping with the home around it. You can see examples of this across our recent kitchen projects in Cardiff
Small changes, significant impact
Two of the most effective updates are:
1. Cabinet colour
A well-chosen colour can shift the feel of a space completely — whether that’s softening it with warm neutrals, introducing depth with darker tones, or creating contrast through an island or feature area.
Because all removable elements are spray finished in our workshop, we’re able to achieve a consistent, durable result across every surface.
2. Hardware
Handles are often overlooked, but they play a defining role in how a kitchen feels.
We work with a small number of trusted suppliers, including Hendel & Hendel, Plank Hardware, and Corston Architectural Detail, allowing us to source pieces that feel considered and appropriate to the space — whether that’s subtle and understated or more architectural.
These details bring the whole scheme together.

Looking beyond cabinetry
In some projects, refinishing sits alongside other light-touch updates — such as worktops, lighting or splashbacks — helping to elevate the space further without the disruption of a full renovation.
We’ll shortly be able to offer tiles from Bert & May, giving clients access to a curated range of handcrafted surfaces that complement our approach to colour and finish.
A different way of thinking about kitchens
A kitchen doesn’t always need to be replaced to feel new.
In many cases, it simply needs to be reconsidered — with attention to finish, proportion and detail.
Refinishing provides a way to do that: retaining the structure, while refining how it looks and feels.
Thinking about your own kitchen?
If your kitchen is well made but no longer feels right, refinishing may be worth considering.
We work across Cardiff and South Wales, and are always happy to advise on whether your kitchen is suitable — and how it could be improved.
